Mu dheidhinn

Air a’ chùrsa, bidh na h-oileanaich ag ionnsachadh:

  • briathrachas na Gàidhlig co-cheangailte ris an àrainneachd
  • ainmean Gàidhlig airson lusan is ainmhidhean
  • beul-aithris is dualchas nan Gàidheal co-cheangailte ri lusan is ainmhidhean dùthchasach

Bithear a’ tadhal air diofar àrainnean – boglach, croit, monadh, coille is cladach, agus bidh  eòlaiche fosailean a’ sealltainn mar a ghabhas fosailean a lorg is aithneachadh. Ged a tha an cùrsa ga chumail anns an Eilean Sgitheanach, bithear a’ toirt sùil air an àrainneachd bho shealladh nàiseanta. Tha oileanaich air a bhith ann bho iomadh ceàrn ann an Alba agus Alba Nuadh. Tha cuid air tòiseachadh air na dh’ionnsaich iad a chur an sàs anns a’ choimhearsnachd no suidheachadh proifeiseanta aca fhèin. AIRIGH NA SUIRGHEStudents learn to recognise plants and animals by their Gaelic names, and in their natural habitats. They learn about ecology, and about traditional uses and folklore associated with native species. They also receive instruction in how to recognise and interpret fossils in an area famous for its fossil heritage. They are encouraged to pass on their knowledge to others – both Gaelic and non Gaelic speakers and to consider how it can be applied in education and cultural tourism. Some of the content is delivered in a classroom setting but daily excursions are made to a variety of habitats to see native species in their natural settings. Students have attended from all over Scotland, and from Nova Scotia.
